Meet Dr. Susanna Goggin
Dr. Goggin grew up in the small town of Danville, Kentucky and attended the University of Kentucky for her undergraduate and dental school education. After dental school, Dr. Goggin chose to spend an additional 3 years of training in the specialty of Periodontics. Dr. Goggin successfully completed a dual certification during her residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry Department of Periodontology and the Veteran Affairs Hospital in Birmingham from 2011-2014. Dr. Goggin moved to the mountains of Western North Carolina and joined Asheville Periodontics in 2014.
Dr. Goggin has continued her education after residency completing many advanced continuing education courses in the field of periodontology. She has traveled widely seeking educational opportunities to advance her specialty training, learning from world renowned teachers in the field of periodontology. Her areas of interest include: soft tissue grafting, dental implants and advanced bone grafting techniques. She has also trained in periodontal microsurgery.
Locally, Dr. Goggin is the co-leader of two study clubs with SPEAR education. These are groups of dentists who meet monthly to discuss cases and collaborate through interdisciplinary learning. She and club members often travel to the SPEAR campus in Scottsdale, AZ where they learn together in order to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. Dr. Goggin has been actively involved with SPEAR Education since 2014 and has taken nearly every course in their continuing education curriculum, some multiple times!
Dr. Goggin has a passion for helping others through dentistry and has served the people of Honduras, Nicaragua and Haiti on dental mission trips. She has also participated in the North Carolina Mission of Mercy dental clinics and sealant clinics at AB Tech. Dr. Goggin has been Donated Dental Services volunteer through Dental Lifeline Network since 2020. Dr. Goggin and her toy poodle Rosebud are a certified pet therapy team and they share their time by volunteering locally and visiting nursing homes. You might even get to say Hi to Rosebud when you come to our office:) She also frequently volunteers time with Babies Need Bottoms and Project Dignity, two local non-profits she is passionate about.
When she is not helping patients in her office or expanding her knowledge in her specialty, Dr. Goggin loves to do spin class, go for bike rides and do hand embroidery and cross stitch projects. She is currently exploring flower and vegetable gardening.
Professional affiliations include memberships in the American Academy of Periodontology, Southern Academy of Periodontology, Academy of Osseointegration, American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, North Carolina Dental Society, International Team for Implantology, International Society of Periodontal Plastic Surgeons, American Academy of Facial Esthetics, Buncombe County Dental Society, American Dental Association, Spear Education Study Club, and Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce.
