What Does a Periodontist Do?
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal (gum) disease, and in the placement of dental implants. Periodontists are experts in the treatment of all forms of periodontal disease including gingivitis, periodontitis, and gingival recession. Periodontists have had three years of extensive advanced training in the treatment of periodontal disease, in addition to dental school. As specialists, they devote their time, energy, and skill to helping people who need periodontal treatment. By choosing a specialist you will benefit from the latest procedures for treating periodontal disease and placing dental implants tailored to your needs.
Dr. Goggin is a board certified periodontist, which means she had made significant achievements beyond the mandatory education requirements of the specialty. This is a distinction held by less than one-half of practicing periodontists.
